June is National Indigenous History Month
National Indigenous History Month is a time to celebrate the unique heritage, traditions, and knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Explore ways to celebrate National Indigenous History Month at NVDPL: Indigenous Language Storytime Kits Borrow a storytime kit in a local Indigenous language: Michif, hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, or Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim. STEAM Kits for Kids Now Available at NVDPL!
We’re excited to introduce STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Kits! Designed to make learning coding and robotics fun, these kits are the starting point for a wide variety of creative projects and are suitable for elementary and high school students. Join 2026 One eRead Canada: What I Know About You by Éric Chacour!
One eRead/Un Livrel Canada is back this year from April 1 – 30. This year’s One eRead Canada pick is What I Know About You by Éric Chacour, originally published in French as «Ce que je sais de toi» and translated by Pablo Strauss. Whether you read in English or French (or both!), this is an incredible opportunity to engage with other readers from across Canada. Changes to Online Catalogue Accounts
On Tuesday, February 3, our catalogue vendor updated the online catalogue system, changing the My Bookshelf feature to Account Portal. There have been some issues with this change, for NVDPL and other libraries using this system. We are working with our catalogue vendor and other affected libraries to fix the problems introduced by the update, including missing Holds pick-up dates. 2025 Teen Writing Contest Winners
Books by the winners of the 2025 Teen Writing Contest are now available on shelves at NVDPL! Stop by the teen area at your local library to read these compelling stories based on the theme "the butterfly effect." The 2025 contest was open to students in grades 7–12 with original stories of up to 5,000 words. Winners were determined by a committee of library staff, teen leaders, and local authors.
