It was April 12, 1964, when the library system we know today as NVDPL was officially launched with its first chief librarian, Enid Dearing. What began in 1964 as a small and hopeful vision for public library service in North Vancouver has grown into a thriving, innovative, and inclusive community hub for learning, creativity, and connection.
In April of 2025, we "bookended" our anniversary year celebration and released a special video featuring just some of the people who make our library so special. Through their reflections, we celebrate NVDPL's role in North Vancouver and all that's to come!
Can't get enough? We put together a special update to our 50th anniversary book in the form of a magazine. You can explore a selection of the stories and highlights from the last ten years of our history.
