StoryLab’s 3D printing service helps NVDPL patrons turn digital models into physical objects.Whether you are a curious beginner or a seasoned maker, the service can help with replacement parts, adaptive tools, toys, gifts, artwork, custom prototypes, cutouts, moulds, and more.

Pricing
3D printed items cost $1 for the first 10 grams of filament, then 10 cents for each additional gram, including supports.

Print Time
NVDPL can print single-colour items up to 7 hours of printing. Size limits may apply.

Size Limit
Single-colour 3D models can be up to 150 mm by 150 mm by 170 mm and up to 7 hours of printing per model.

File Format
Models must be submitted in .stl file format and are subject to staff approval.

Library Card Required
A NVDPL library card in good standing is required to submit a 3D printing request.

Request Limit
NVDPL can accommodate one active request per person at a time. Once the item is paid for and picked up, a new request can be submitted.

NVDPL uses PLA filament. Filament colours are specified on the online form.

Colour and Finishing
Prints are single colour. Acrylic or enamel paints can be used after printing if a specific final colour is needed.

NVDPL does not recommend printing objects that will come in contact with food or drinks.

How 3D Printing Works
Design your own 3D model at home or find a print ready file online. After reviewing the 3D printing terms of use, submit the request form with your .stl file to receive a quote. A NVDPL library card is required. Staff will email you for approval before the print begins. When your item is ready, you will receive an email for pickup at Lynn Valley Library. Pay at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor, then bring your receipt to StoryLab to pick up your item.
