Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.jpg

Zombie slaying action complements Jane Austen’s celebrated romance in this gruesome re-telling of the classic love story of the headstrong Elizabeth Bennet and the proud Mr. Darcy. A zombie plague has struck England and the Bennet sisters, trained in the deadly arts from a young age, are determined to rid the countryside of this new menace. But, Elizabeth finds an unwelcome distraction with the arrival of the arrogant Mr. Darcy. This is a hilarious alternative account of Pride and Prejudice. Warning: if you prefer your Austen literature prim and proper, this may not be the book for you.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

Jane Austen is either spinning in her grave or howling with laughter. I'm betting on the latter. Zombies plus martial arts plus a nineteenth-century romance? It's a mash-up made in heaven that even Austen might approve. P+P+Z is clever, funny, crude, gory, and just as gossipy as the 1813 original. It's sometimes a slow read, but the subversive moments are worth waiting for, and if your attention starts to wander, you can think about who you'd cast in the movie (somehow, I can't picture Colin Firth as a nunchuck-throwing Mr. Darcy).
