Library Stories from our Patrons
From a patron at Capilano Branch:
"Our nine year old daughter has grown up spending an hour or so every Saturday visiting the library with her bookworm parents in tow. Thanks to the enthusiasm, patience and friendliness of the library staff, she now confidently navigates the children’s section on her own and is growing up to be a fine bookworm.
I wanted to express my gratitude to the library, not only for nurturing my child’s love of reading but also for generously acquiring the books my husband and I requested by authors John F. Haught, George V. Coyne, Kenneth R. Miller and Karl Giberson. Although these scholarly books are not easy find at local libraries, they provide an important intellectual contrast to the hugely popular books by Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris.
It’s reassuring to know that our library makes room for diverse points of view. Please keep up the good work!"
From a patron at Capilano Branch:
"I grew up in the Edgemont area in the 60's and I have fond memories of going to the Capilano Library at least 2 or 3 times a week with my father who also was an avid reader and I would always leave with a great selection of books.
Now I am a parent and I took my children to story time when they were little and as they grew older, they joined the summer reading club, enjoying the prizes and achieving their reading goals.
Now that the Library has so many other features such as internet usage, dvd's, great magazines etc; it has become a place that our family all enjoy and use often. The librarians and staff are so friendly and they know me by name and are always welcoming. I can't imagine my life without this Library, it's like a second home to me."
From a patron at Lynn Valley Main:

I love the library."
From a patron at Lynn Valley Main:
"I grew up in Lynn Valley and at 26 years old I can still say I love the Lynn Valley Library. When I was a child my parents took me to the library frequently and I remember being involved in the summer reading clubs, which I thoroughly enjoyed. ‘Fun’ is the word that describes my childhood experiences at the library. As an adult I am at the library weekly borrowing DVD’s or books and I continue to be thankful that I can access many informative sources along with other works that allow me to escape. The library has become a sanctuary for me in getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!"
From a patron at Lynn Valley Main:
"I am writing on behalf of my 6 year old daughter, Lauren, who participated in your summer reading program. She was very excited to get a medal after she completed reading all of her books. She loves to read, and getting a medal was a fun gift at the end!"
From a patron at Parkgate Branch:
"Simply put, I just love going to the library. The staff are always helpful. I like browsing through the 14 day loaners, not to mention the staff picks/recommendations. And, whenever I have made a recommendation for purchase, the purchase has always gone through.
The library ROCKS! I am an AVID user of the library and look forward to going for new books every two weeks or so. Thank you for such a fantastic service."
From a patron at Capilano Branch:
"When I was a child, my aunt, Phyllis Edsell, was employed at the Capilano branch. Consequently, she opened up a world of diverse reading material for our entire family. I can't think of a week of my youth when I wasn't reading something from the library's vast collection. In addition, Saturdays during the school year were often spent in the non-fiction section researching for many school assignments.
This library gave me a comfort and ease for using libraries world-wide - something that local branches may not consider - because I knew that the people who worked there were more than willing to aid in any sort of research, and enjoyed puzzling out the best sources from their collections.
Kudos to the North Vancouver Public libraries - as technology continues to add to the vast wealth of information available, you have kept up with providing necessary services. I'm sure hundreds of other children have developed their love of reading through you."
