This is the first book in Brandon Sanderson’s new epic fantasy series, The Stormlight Archive. Fantasy fans will savour this book as it is definitely an ambitious and hefty tome at just over a thousand pages. But, don’t let the weight of this book scare you off! Sanderson does an excellent job of making his fractured world accessible and a pleasure to delve into. Every time I read one of his novels I am struck by how creative and fresh the magical system is.

Artemis Fowl is a criminal mastermind. Ever since his father's disappearance in Russia Artemis has been bent on restoring the family fortune. His newest plot: to steal money from the fairy people. He "borrows" the book- a guide on fairy laws from an old half drunk fairy and now knows all the fairy secrets. Along comes in Holly Short a captain in the LEPrecaun (fairy police). When she goes out to renew her magic she is captured by the devious Artemis Fowl. His plan is to collect a huge sum of ransom money from the fairies.
