Can I request a title from another library using Interlibrary Loans?

Are you looking for a book that you can't find in our Library Catalogue

Was the title published in the last year or is the item a DVD, CD, ebook or other digital content? If so, please use our Suggestion for Purchase Form.

If the book you want is an out-of-print or older title, you can request that we bring it in from another library for you. 

About Interlibrary Loans

The Library allows a maximum of 10 active interlibrary loan requests at any time.  Please make only one request per title.

You will use a website called Outlook Online to make and track your request. Outlook Online is a catalogue of all public and academic libraries in BC. 

How do I make an Interlibrary Loan request?

Check our Library catalogue to see if the item is available.

If NVDPL doesn't own the item, search the Outlook Online catalogue to see if it is available at another library. (Follow the instructions under Using Outlook Online below.)

Remember to choose your pickup location:  Lynn Valley, Capilano or Parkgate. To select your preferred location, use the drop-down box located below the phone number on the Interlibrary Loan request page of Outlook Online.

You have to return your item to a NVDPL branch only (i.e., Lynn Valley, Capilano, or Parkgate).  

Check the progress of your request by clicking on Patron Menu from the first page of the Outlook Online Catalogue and choosing ILL Request Tracking. Use the same name and password created when the item was requested.

You can email a librarian if you need help finding an item.


Using Outlook Online

Search for your book in the Outlook Online catalogue.

Choose the item with the greatest number of locations by clicking on the title.

Cick on "Request this Item" at the top right of the screen. You will be directed to the Interlibrary Loan Form.

Please enter information in the following fields: 

Patron's Identifier / Last Name: Enter your last name here
Patron's First Name: Enter your first name here
Create a Password: Enter the last 4 digits of your phone number
Patron's Library Card Number:
Enter your 13-digit North Vancouver District Public Library card number in full.
Patron's  Phone: Enter your phone number.
Patron's Email: Enter your e-mail address here if you would like to be notified by e-mail.
Pickup Location Options:

Choose the branch ( Lynn Valley , Capilano, or Parkgate)

Note that we do not need your address.

Do not use Patron's Notes unless you need a specific volume or format of the book requested.

When you have filled in the above fields, click on Submit Request.

You're now ready to place your Interlibrary Loan request through Outlook Online.



Tracking Your ILL Request

At any time, you can view the status of your ILL requests by logging into Outlook Online's ILL Request Tracking portal.

In order to log in, please enter the following information from your original request(s):

Patron Identifier: Enter your last name here, followed by your first name, as input in the "Patron's Identifier / Last Name" and "Patron's First Name" fields of the request form.
Example: Smith, Jane
Password: Enter the password you created for your original request. This should be the last four digits of your phone number.
