Join author Claudia Cornwall, as she discusses her new book, At the World’s Edge–Curt Lang’s Vancouver: 1937–1998, at a book talk at Lynn Valley Main Library.

Part biography, part memoir, At the World’s Edge tells the story of a man, Curt Lang, and a city, Vancouver. The book includes over thirty of Curt Lang’s unpublished photographs of Vancouver, as well as previously unpublished drawings, paintings, and poetry.

Illustrated Book Talk: Selling Canada

Join historical writer Daniel Francis at Parkgate Branch Library for a discussion and illustrative slide show about the aggressive promotional campaigns used to “sell” Canada to its residents and the world.

Francis will discuss his new book, Selling Canada, and speak about three campaigns to “sell” Canada at home and abroad between 1880 and the 1930s. These campaigns persuaded millions of immigrants to make Western Canada their home, and convinced over 500,000 men to become soldiers. Tourists too were “sold” on visiting Canada’s awe-inspiring scenery.

The Friends of the North Vancouver District Public Library are hosting another one of their legendary book sales this October at Lynn Valley Main Library in the Community Meeting Room.

At this sale you’ll find a huge variety of books and audio visual materials at bargain prices ranging from 50 cents to $2. On Sunday, everything is half price! Plus, on Sunday, you can get a bag of books for $3, or a box for $6!

Please bring your own bag to the sale to carry your purchases.Sale proceeds will provide book prizes for the Summer Reading Club and The Trick is to Read Halloween program.
