Drop in to the Lynn Valley Main Library’s fireplace area for one-on-one chats with North Vancouver District Mayor Richard Walton.
Richard Walton is in his second term as Mayor of North Vancouver District (2005 to present) after serving three years as Councilor (2003 - 2005) and seven years as a North Vancouver School Trustee (1986 - 1993). During his term as Mayor, Richard Walton serves on numerous boards including the Municipal Finance Authority of BC and the Fraser Basin Council. He is also Vice Chair of the Board of Metro Vancouver, and sits on the Environment and Energy, Port Cities, Intergovernmental and Parks Committees.

Comfortable surroundings for vibrant street level discussions on burning issues of the day. No formal philosophy training required; real life experience desired. Join us on December 16th when we ask... Do humans have free will? Neuroscientists seem to be making more and more progress in understand the workings of the brain. Can this investigation give us insight into whether humans have free will or not? If our mind is just the brain, where could our free will be? Come of your own free will and discuss this troubling issue. Moderator: Mark Battersby, PhD, has been teaching philosophy and critical thinking at Capilano University for over 30 years. He has also taught at UBC, SFU and Stanford universities. He is endlessly curious about humans and the world, and deeply committed to helping people think more reasonably about complex issues.
