NVDPL's Online Resources

North Vancouver District Public Library has many online resources that you can access right from home. All you need is a library card. 

To help you make the most of your library card, here is a list of the top ways to take advantage of the digital resources provided to you by your District Library.

Download free ebooks and audiobooks – The library offers free ebook and audiobook downloads through Library to Go. This service offers thousands of ebook and audiobook titles, including mystery and suspense, romance, historical fiction, biography, literature and more. When you’ve downloaded what you want, you can read your ebook or listen to your audiobook on your computer or portable device.

Read an animated picture book – Are your kids learning to read? They can practice their skills with Tumblebooks, NVDPL’s online collection of animated talking picture books, puzzles and educational games.

Find a repair manual for your vehicle – Need help repairing your car or truck? With the Auto Repair Reference Centre you can find online repair manuals for cars and trucks (1945 to current models), including repair procedures and wiring diagrams.

Read a magazine or journal – Want to make better purchasing decisions with the help of Consumer Reports magazine? Get a recipe from Chatelaine? Read articles in MacLean’s, Harvard Business Review or others? NVDPL offers a variety of electronic magazines and journals. Click here to access our journal database.

Read today’s newspaper – With Press Display you can access online today’s newspapers from around the world in full-colour, full-page format. This collection includes over 2,000 Canadian and international titles that you can browse through just like reading a print copy. You can even print out crossword puzzles!

Plan your next trip – Planning a vacation? With Global Road Warrior you can find practical information about traveling to 175 different countries.

Have your questions answered – Do you have a reference question? Need help getting started with your research? Just Ask! is a live chat service staffed by librarians from 10am to 8pm, Monday to Thursday and from 10am to 5 pm on Fridays.

Find health information – From mainstream medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine, Consumer Health Complete is your source for health and wellness information. Find health-related encyclopedia articles, reference books, and current evidence-based reports, as well as fact sheets and pamphlets on selected health topics such as heart disease, diabetes, mental illness, fitness and nutrition.

Access our catalogue on your phone – Whether you are at home or out and about, you can search NVDPL’s catalogue on your phone using our app. Before coming into the library (or even within the library) you can use the app on your iPhone, Android phone, Blackberry or other Internet-enabled device to check whether the item you want is in.
